Want to create content that people actually read and that brings in customers?

What is Mint Studios?

Mint Studios is a content marketing agency that helps financial companies acquire customers and position themselves as experts with content.

We've worked with well-known financial companies like SAP Fioneer, Yapily, Primer, Confused.com, WorldFirst and Persona.

Our main differentiation point from other agencies is that we create content that is optimised for conversions and leads, not just traffic.

We do this by creating Bottom of the Funnel content, which involves understanding our client’s ideal customer and creating content that is designed to sell, not entertain. You can learn more about BOFU here: What is BOFU (Bottom of the Funnel) Content and Why Is it Important?

Our purpose

At Mint, we fundamentally believe that content can be a key driver in growing a company. Our mission is to help financial services companies use content to acquire customers and grow their company.

Araminta started Mint Studios because she believed the content marketing agency business model was broken. Most content marketing agencies compete on number of articles produced per month and word count, and outsource to one-off freelancers or underpaid in-house writers who are treated like writing machines. The result is generic “thought leadership” content that not only no one reads, but doesn’t really help the client’s business in any way.

With Mint, we do things differently:

  • We stick to a maximum of select articles per month, and instead focus on writing in-depth, excellent content that brings in leads and customers for clients.
  • All our content is based on interviews with internal experts at our clients’ organisation, which means they are based on expertise and not recycled Google content.
  • Our content is focused on the client’s target market, not beginners. We write for an advanced audience.
  • We track the results of our efforts, so at the end of the month we can tell the client how many leads and customers we’ve produced.

The result is that the client is happy, because they’re getting what they ultimately care about: customers.

But even better, is that the writers on our team are also happy, because people are actually reading your content and it’s influencing their purchase decision.

Why I Set Out to Build a Financial Services Content Marketing Agency

The Content Manifesto for Financial Services Companies

Our culture and values

We are writer-first: Mint Studios is a writer-led agency. We understand that a content agency cannot operate without its writers and that writers are at the core of our service offering. We know that writers are not machines, designed to churn out as many blog posts as possible.

Araminta started out as a writer, and then moved into content strategy. Everyone on the team starts out as a writer, so we’ve all been through the process and know how to write. We are all writers first.

We aim for empathetic transparency: To be a good writer, you need to be good at giving and receiving feedback. That doesn’t mean you have to deal with being disrespected and mean comments. We believe in being direct and transparent, but that doesn’t mean hurting others’ feelings.

We care about quality: The type of article we write isn’t easy. It requires collaboration, rounds of feedback, and a willingness to understand a product and topic. But we don’t do this because it’s easy, we do it because it works. We don’t like half-assing and we always try our best.

How we work

We’re currently a fully remote team across over 4 countries, although we’re looking to hire someone in Edinburgh, Scotland who would be open to hybrid working.

Schedules are flexible and as long as you’re able to respond in a reasonable amount of time and attend calls, you can work on your own time.

Our interview process

Stage Step What happens
1 Apply We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t feel 100% confident.
2 Screening call If we’re interested in your application, we’ll reach out for a short introductory call.
3 Paid writing test After the first call, we’ll get back to you about doing a paid writing test. This is a test where you fill in a questionnaire and write 500–1,000 words of an article, which we pay £150 for.
4 Paid project If the paid writing test is successful, we’ll ask you to complete a short strategy project for a hypothetical client. We’ll also pay £150 for this.
5 Final interview We’ll do one last interview, if possible, in person in the UK (travel reimbursed).
6 Offer You’ll get an email with your job offer.
7 You’re in! Welcome to the team!

What happens once you're hired?

You’ll be given a 30/60/90-day plan that will help you get up to speed on the business and your role and help you carve out your unique path to success.

The first 60 days will mainly involve you writing articles and content for clients. This is so you get up to speed with our approach to writing and we can train you on our methodology.

After that, you’ll start doing the strategy working directly with clients. First you’ll be shadowing one of the existing strategists so you learn the ropes of strategy, and then eventually you’ll lead the clients yourself.

You’ll have one-on-ones with Araminta every month to ensure you’re making progress in your career and professional development.

What it's like to work with Mint Studios

"Mint Studios is a great place to grow and learn and they really care about your well-being: you can take on as much work as you feel comfortable with.

They also have friendly, innovative clients and a readiness to experiment to discover what works. Above all, I really love to see the impact I can make by creating great bottom-of-the-funnel content."

We're good for you if you're

Process-oriented: we’ve figured out a process that helps financial services companies use content to drive customers. We’re constantly experimenting and improving it, but it does mean that at the beginning we do appreciate someone who can follow processes. If you’re detail-oriented and like getting things right, we’ll be right for you.

Bit of a nerd: some of the topics we get into can get quite complex and intricate. If you’re someone who loves learning new things purely because you’re curious, this is nerd-land. You’ll get to speak with experts who know their stuff inside out, and learn about interesting payment topics that no one ever talks about.

Fascinated about what makes someone tick: we are writing to sell, which means it’s important to be someone who’s fascinated by what gets someone to buy. If you love getting into the customers’ shoes and understand the customer’s problems, you won’t be able to get enough of this.

Looking to grow as a marketer: when working with us, you’ll get to see the insides of how other companies work, as well as understand what makes people buy. You’ll learn how to write to sell, and how to create a content strategy that brings results.
